FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Functional Medicine is a personalized, systems-based approach that looks at how and why symptoms develop rather than focusing only on a diagnosis or isolated symptom.

Conventional medicine remains essential for acute care, diagnostics, emergency treatment, and disease management. Functional Medicine complements that care by evaluating the interconnected factors that influence long-term health — including gut function, metabolism, nutrition, sleep, stress, inflammation, lifestyle patterns, and environmental influences.

Rather than asking only, "What diagnosis do you have?" Functional Medicine also asks, "What underlying patterns may be contributing to how you feel?"

We bridge the gap between where your health is stuck and who you want to become — moving you from clinical confusion to absolute clarity.

  • This practice is designed for individuals who are looking for a more thoughtful, personalized, and in-depth approach to their health.

Patients often come to this clinic after feeling frustrated by persistent digestive symptoms, metabolic concerns, fatigue, inflammation-related patterns, weight-related challenges, or recurring issues that have not fully improved despite multiple attempts at treatment or lifestyle change.

This may also be an appropriate supportive wellness resource for cancer survivors seeking guidance related to gut health, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall physiologic resilience.

Please note: Cancer survivor support services offered through this practice are complementary wellness services and do not replace oncology care, cancer treatment, surveillance, or specialist-directed medical management.

  • Yes. Functional Medicine is highly history-, pattern-, and data-driven, which makes virtual care very effective for many chronic and metabolic concerns.

Virtual visits allow for more focused discussion of your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle patterns, medications, supplements, labs, nutrition, and goals without the time limitations often associated with traditional clinic settings.

All visits are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

Please note: This practice currently serves California residents only. Patients must be physically located in California at the time of each telehealth appointment in accordance with California telehealth regulations.

If an in-person physical exam, imaging study, urgent evaluation, or procedure is needed, you may be referred to an appropriate local medical provider.

  • Your initial consultation is a comprehensive 60–90 minute evaluation designed to understand your health story in context.

We review your medical history, current symptoms, medications, supplements, nutrition, sleep, stress, lifestyle patterns, prior testing, and health goals in order to identify potential contributing factors that may be affecting how your body functions.

The goal is not to provide a generic protocol or short-term symptom patch. The goal is to create a structured, personalized clinical roadmap that helps clarify meaningful next steps.

  • Lab testing is recommended selectively and only when it is clinically appropriate and relevant to your goals.

Testing may include standard blood work through CLIA-certified laboratory partners, as well as select at-home functional testing options such as stool, urine, or saliva testing when indicated.

Results are interpreted alongside your symptoms, medical history, medications, lifestyle patterns, and overall clinical picture — not as isolated numbers on a page — in order to guide more personalized recommendations.

  • No. There is no one-size-fits-all supplement protocol or rigid dietary approach used in this practice.

Nutrition strategies and targeted supplementation may be recommended when clinically appropriate, but all recommendations are individualized and reviewed carefully in the context of your medical history, medications, preferences, tolerance, and goals.

The intention is not to overwhelm you with unnecessary restrictions or large numbers of supplements. The focus is on building a realistic, sustainable plan that supports long-term health and daily function.

  • This is a private, cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.

Operating outside of insurance networks allows for longer visits, deeper clinical evaluation, and a more personalized approach to care without the limitations imposed by insurance-based models.

Upon request, we are happy to provide an itemized receipt or superbill that you may independently submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends entirely on your individual insurance plan.

You may also independently check with your HSA or FSA administrator regarding possible eligibility for reimbursement.

  • Timelines vary depending on your health history, symptom complexity, consistency with recommendations, lifestyle factors, and overall clinical picture.

Some patients notice early improvements in areas such as digestion, energy, sleep, or symptom awareness within the first several weeks. More complex metabolic, inflammatory, or gut-related patterns often require a longer-term and more consistent approach.

Functional Medicine focuses on sustainable physiologic improvement and long-term health support rather than temporary symptom suppression.

Please note: Individual experiences and results vary. No specific outcome can be guaranteed.

  • No. This practice does not replace your primary care physician, oncologist, gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, psychiatrist, emergency services, or other specialist care.

Functional Medicine is intended to function as a complementary layer of support alongside your established medical team. You should continue routine screenings, prescription management, specialist-directed treatment, cancer surveillance, and urgent medical care through your existing providers.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Do not use this clinic for urgent or emergency medical situations.

  • This practice is intentionally designed for patients seeking a more personalized, high-context, and collaborative approach to health care.

Rather than viewing symptoms in isolation, we evaluate how multiple systems may be interacting simultaneously — including digestion, metabolism, inflammation, nutrition, stress physiology, sleep, medications, lifestyle patterns, and overall resilience.

The focus is not simply on symptom management. The focus is on helping you better understand your own physiology, identify meaningful contributors affecting your health, and build a more sustainable path forward.

We don't sell visits or generic wellness packages. We provide a clinical partnership designed to help you move from surviving to functioning — and from functioning to truly thriving.
